Vice Minister of Kazakhstan’s National Economy Alibek Kuantyrov took part in the ECOJER International Congress ‘Form sustainable future’, Trend reports referring to a source in the National Economy Ministry.

According to the source, during the event, held with the participation of representatives of state bodies of Kazakhstan and the European Union, Kuantyrov spoke about the measures taken for transition to ‘green economy’.

“During his speech, the vice minister noted that in 2013, a conceptual framework was adopted for the transition to a ‘green economy’ and the strategic plan for Kazakhstan’s development until 2050 was launched in the country,” the source said.

According to Kuantyrov, the government takes active measures to develop the ‘green economy’, which will allow for a systematic transition to ‘circular economy’.

At the 2020 Climate Ambitions Summit held in December last year, the country’s president announced Kazakhstan's commitment to ensure carbon neutrality by 2060. In February 2021, two important documents the New State Planning System and the National Development Plan until 2025 were adopted, he added.

Speaking about the national plan of the country, the official noted that one of the key directions is the balanced development of all regions.

As he noted, more than 3,500 villages will be modernized according to new regional standards, which will give a new impetus to the development of rural regions.

Besides, according to him, the increase in construction volumes and improvement of housing infrastructure will continue. All these measures will help improve the quality of life of citizens, especially in the regions, and will also support local businessmen.

“With the support of the international community, we are developing a long-term strategy to reduce emissions and decarbonize the economy, updating and strengthening our nationally determined contribution to the UNFCCC (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change). We are also improving our emissions trading scheme, which is an important basis for our efforts to mitigate the effects of emissions,” said the vice minister.

In conclusion, Kuantyrov stressed the need for close cooperation with the world community and that the ECOJER Congress is one of the important steps towards the fundamental common goal of transition to a ‘green economy’.

The first International ‘ECOJER’ Congress ‘Form a sustainable future’ was held in Nur-Sultan city. The event took place on the eve of World Environment Day, as part of the celebration of the 30th anniversary of Kazakhstan's independence.

The purpose of the congress is to unite the efforts of state bodies at the level of senior and middle management, financial and industrial groups, eco-activists and experts in the field of sustainable development, green business companies and international donor organizations, interested in the public in raising awareness and ecological culture of the society, as well as popularization of the sustainable development idea.
