Kazakhstan’s main amount of tax arrears falls on transportation

Kazakh's owe the state 23 billion tenge ($54.1 million) in taxes for the first half of 2021, Trend reports citing the press service of the State Revenue Committee of the Ministry of Finance of Kazakhstan.

The main amount of the debt was formed by the tax on vehicles. Over 594,000 citizens owe 21.5 billion tenge ($50 million). The principal amount of the debt amounted to 17.5 billion tenge ($41 million), penalty interest - 3.9 billion tenge ($9.2 million).

Over 263 thousand Kazakh's owed 1.1 billion tenge ($2.6 million) on property tax. The principal amount is 877.1 million tenge ($2 million), penalty interest is 269.9 million tenge ($634,470).

In addition, over 261,000 people owed 409.5 million tenge ($962,637) on land tax, including the principal amount of 282.7 million tenge ($664,560), penalties - 126.8 million tenge ($298,076).

"Tax legislation provides for the accrual of a penalty on the amount of arrears, for each day of delay in the fulfillment of a tax obligation, while the application of penalties is not provided for by law, that is, only the accrual of penalties," the committee explained.

Note that in case of non-payment of the debt, according to the law, the tax authorities can enforce its amount. And banks should refuse to open new accounts to debtors.

In December 2020, it was reported that Kazakhstanis owed the state 20 billion tenge ($47 million).
