Kazakhstan to develop energy sector – PM

To ensure the stability of the energy system of Kazakhstan, accelerated modernization and construction of new capacities of the fuel and energy complex are necessary, the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Askar Mamin said, Trend reports referring to a correspondent of Kazinform agency.

The PM instructed the Ministry of Energy to adopt an updated Concept for the development of the fuel and energy complex until 2030 by the end of this year.

“Together with KazTransGas, the Ministry of Energy has to ensure the development of a comprehensive solution for gasification of the northern and eastern regions of the country until April 1, 2022,” Askar Mamin said.

The PM also noted that the Ministry of National Economy, the Samruk-Kazyna Fund, and private energy-producing organizations, were also instructed to develop financing mechanisms for the modernization and construction of new power plants.

“Together with the Samruk-Kazyna Foundation, to ensure the launch of a polypropylene production plant, as well as to start implementing a project for the production of polyethylene in the Atyrau region of Kazakhstan by April 1, 2022,” the PM added.

Askar Mamin also addressed the intensification of green energy development due to the existence of a large potential for the use of renewable energy sources in Kazakhstan.

At the moment electricity generation from 134 renewable energy facilities in Kazakhstan accounts for 3.3 percent, therefore, its share in the total generation volume should be increased to 15 percent in 2030.
