BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 26. Some 15 percent of Kazakhstan’s territory will be covered by 5G connection in 2023, Yerzhan Meiramov, Chairman of the Telecommunications Committee of the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry, said, Trend reports, citing Kazakh media.

The chairman of the committee added that the introduction of 5G was launched in a pilot project in Astana, Almaty, and Shymkent.

Initially, 5G will be available only in the major cities, and the remaining territories will be covered by the network after technical work in the regions finalizes.

According to Meiramov, the government plans to achieve a coverage rate of 75 percent by 2027.

Kcell, a telecom operator, first launched the 5G network in Turkestan in December 2021. This was the initial launch of a new-generation network in Kazakhstan, which covered the territory of the entire city. During the test measurements, the data transfer rate reached 1.4 gigabytes per second.
