BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 24. China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) and Kazakhstan's KazMunayGas (KMG) national company have discussed the possibilities to construct a gas processing plant at the Kashagan field, a source at the KMG told Trend.

The issue was discussed at the meeting between Magzum Mirzagaliyev, Chairman of the Management Board of KMG and Huang Yongzhang, CNPC Vice President and President of PetroChina.

The total capacity of the envisaged gas processing plant in Kazakhstan is expected to stand at 4 billion cubic meters.

During the meeting, the parties discussed promising areas for cooperation, as well as possibilities for joint implementation of various projects.

The sides also discussed the possibilities of increasing the supply of Kazakh oil to China as a result of the expansion of the Kazakhstan-China oil pipeline.

Meanwhile, it was noted that, last year, the volume of supplies from Atyrau to the east increased, and now the capacities on the Atyrau-Kenkiyak-Kumkol section are almost fully loaded. So, in 2022, 4.5 million tons of oil were delivered through Atyrau-Kenkiyak, 8.1 million tons of oil were delivered through Kenkiyak-Kumkol.

In addition, the parties discussed the possibilities of cooperation in the development of new exploration projects, including "Bolshoy Zhambyl" and "Turgai Paleozoic".

The participants of the meeting also considered ways to expand the processing capacity of the Shymkent refinery to 12 million tons per year. The implementation of this project is very up-to-date, considering the growing demand for petroleum products in Kazakhstan.
