ASTANA, Kazakhstan, February 19. Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan expressed mutual interest in increasing the volume of transit of Kazakh oil in the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan direction, said the Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan Almassadam Satkaliyev in an interview with the Romanian Adevural, Trend reports.
"Taking into account the growth in oil production and the commissioning of new offshore projects, in the medium term we are working on the development of additional transport routes, including in the direction of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR, or Middle Corridor). As part of the development of the TITR, KazMunayGas (Kazakhstan's national oil and gas company) and SOCAR (the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) expressed mutual interest in increasing the volume of transit along the BTC route to 2.2 million tons per year," the minister said.
Meanwhile, Kazakhstan transported 1.3 million tons through BTC in 2023, which is 5.5 times more than in 2022.
In addition, the volume of Kazakhstan's oil transportation through Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) oil pipeline for 2024 has been agreed at the level of 1.5 million tons.
