ASTANA, Kazakhstan, May 20. The volume of cargo transportation by rail between Kazakhstan and China amounted to 10.1 million tons from January through April 2024, Trend reports.
Kazakhstan Railways (KTZ), the national company, says this means a 14 percent rise over 2023's same period.
At the same time, the volume of export transportation from Kazakhstan to China increased by 21 percent and amounted to 4.5 million tons.
Cargo was transported through two border checks. Thus, cargo transportation through the Altynkol-Khorgos border crossing increased by 8 percent compared to last year, to 4.2 million tons. Including exports, an increase of 42 percent, to 1.5 million tons.
In addition, through the Dostyk station, 5.9 million tons were transferred to China and back, which is 18 percent higher than last year. Exports increased by 13 percent, to 3 million tons.
Furthermore, the volume of freight transported by rail between Kazakhstan and China made 28 million tons in 2023. Hence, the volume of cargo transportation grew by 22 percent compared to 2022.
Kazakhstan shipped 12.6 million tons of products to China via rail, 35 percent more than in 2022.
