President of Kazakhstan arrives in Belgium

(gazeta.kz) - The President of Kazakhstan has started his official visit to Belgium, the presidential press service reported on Monday.

"Nursultan Nazarbayev, President of Kazakhstan, has arrived on a working visit to the Kingdom of Belgium, the host country of the European Union and the NATO," - the press service said.

According to Mr. Ashikbayev, during this visit the head of state plans to meet Albert II, King of Belgium, Guy Verhofstadt, Prime Minister of Belgium, and Jean-Claude Juncker, Prime Minister of Luxembourg, reports Trend.

Besides, Mr. Nazarbayev plans to hold meetings with Javier Solana, Secretary General of the EU Council and EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy, Jose Manuel Durao Barroso, President of the European Commission, Benita Ferrero-Waldner, EC Commissioner for External Relations and the European Neighbourhood Policy, Josep Borrel-Fouteilles President of the European Parliament, and Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, NATO Secretary Ggeneral.

Documents on energy co-operation will be inked during a visit of the President of Kazakhstan to Brussels, during which opportunities of Kazakh nuclear fuel supplies to the EU will be regarded. "It is planned that during the visit of Nursultan Nazarbayev to Brussels documents on energy co-operation between RK and the EU and a memo on a peaceful use of nuclear energy will be inked," - Bahtikoja Izmuhambetov, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources of RK, said.

The Minister reminded that possessing 20% of the world's uranium reserves, Kazakhstan is going not only to extract uranium, but also to receive products with high added value - the fuel for nuclear stations.

"Today we are already producing such "tablets" for nuclear power stations of Russia, in the future we are going to export them to other countries. The memorandum that is suggested to be inked during the presidential visit to Brussels provides an opportunity for co-operation with the EU member states in this area," - the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources of RK said.
