Four physicians fired for negligence in South Kyrgyzstan
Four chief physicians have been fired for negligence in the South Kyrgyzstan, while one case was sent to prosecutor general's office, a member of parliament Zulhabira Bekenova said on result of an investigation of 5 maternal deaths in Osh oblast, news agency "24.kg" reported.
The investigation revealed that doctors' negligence caused all 5 deaths. "However, it is not always the doctors' fault. Pregnant women usually do not attend regular check-ups and go to hospital when start feeling sick, but often it is too late. The firing of doctors will not solve the problem. We should seek further in preparing professional doctors. More so, medical centers should cooperate with maternal clinics and child centers on a regular basis," she said.
Because of such incidents, Kyrgyz Parliament intends to establish a special committee to study maternal and child mortality issues in Osh oblast.
