The best defense against the Islamization of Central Asia is a true democracy, President of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambayev said in an interview with the British Guardian, KyrTAG writes.
"Yes, I consider Islamization as a problem for Central Asian countries. Many ordinary people in the region have turned to Islam, because they live under the thumb of corrupt regimes. The solution is in building a true democratic state in Central Asia, so that people can see the choice between secular but a corrupt regime, which is very often authoritarianism, and a dictatorial regime of radical Islam," the President said.
Atambayev noted that the problem of excessive Islamization and radicalization can only be solved by building a true democracy.
"As we see, trillion dollars are spent in Afghanistan, but the Taliban is still on the road to power," Kyrgyzstan's President said.
