Kyrgyzstan records increase in food prices

BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 27. Prices for food products and non-alcoholic beverages in Kyrgyzstan from January through June 2022 increased by 12.5 percent compared to the same period of last year, Trend reports with reference to the National Statistical Committee of Kyrgyzstan.

According to the committee, prices for bakery products and cereals throughout the country in the first half of 2022 increased by 17.5 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2021. The largest increase was recorded in the Naryn region (by 23.7 percent).

"Prices for fresh fruits since the beginning of this year have increased by 19.7 percent, fresh vegetables - by 6.5 percent. The biggest price growth for fresh vegetables was registered in the Naryn region (by 21.3 percent)," the message said.

The Committee noted that vegetable oil prices continue to rise steadily. In the first half of this year, compared to December 2021, they increased by 6.9 percent. The largest increase in average consumer price per 1 liter of sunflower oil in June 2022 was recorded in the city of Kerben (202.63 soms, or $2.5).

In addition, the highest average price for milk in June of this year was reported in the capital Bishkek - 56.44 soms ($0.7) per 1 liter, for eggs - in the city of Uzgen (138.31 soms, or $1.7 for 10 pieces.

Meanwhile, since the beginning of 2022, the increase in prices for alcoholic beverages amounted to 14.7 percent, and for tobacco products - 6.1 percent. At the same time, the increase in prices for alcoholic beverages and tobacco products was observed throughout the country.
