BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 18. Starting from 2018 United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Global Environment Facility (GEF) have been implementing “Green Energy Small and Medium Enterprises Development Project" in Tajiksitan, a source in the UNDP told Trend.

Within the framework of this project, a total of 50 sub-projects were piloted, where solar technologies were installed:

- in secondary schools, kindergarten;

- medical centers, regional hospitals and maternity hospitals; Women's resource center;

- public bathhouse, sewing production, canteen, crafting workshop, workshop for processing dried fruits;

- small hotels, hunting farms in rural areas of Tajikistan.

The total number of people directly benefiting from the RES (renewable energy sources) installation in Tajikistan as of today exceeded 8,000.

For this year, the project will continue to: support enabling policy and regulatory framework and capacity development for green energy SMEs, accelerate access to finance for green energy SMEs and/or energy service users, develop business models for green energy SME, cover knowledge management and monitoring and evaluation activities.

Meanwhile, the objective of the project, which is due to finish on December 31, 2023, is to transform Tajikistan’s energy sector, in particular the emergence of independent energy SMEs to offer affordable and sustainable energy products and services to the rural population of Tajikistan.
