BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 14. China plans to allocate financing for construction and reconstruction of the remained 296 kilometers of Dushanbe-Kulma highway (with a total length of 1008 kilometers), which links Tajikistan and China, Trend reports via the Ministry of Transport of Tajikistan.

The matter was discussed during the meeting of Tajik Minister of Transport Azim Ibrohim with a delegation from the city of Kashgar (one of the westernmost cities of China, near the border with Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Pakistan).

The sides reached an agreement to sign an official document on the issue in the near future.

During the meeting, other transport and logistics projects supported by China in Tajikistan were discussed. In particular, Tajik minister noted that thanks to the financial assistance of $200 million from Chinese government, a project to build/overhaul the Kalaikhumb-Vanj-Rushan section of the Dushanbe-Kulma highway was launched last year.

The project includes construction and reconstruction of a 93-kilometer part of Kalaikhumb-Vanj-Rushan road, including two tunnels with a total length of 5.2 kilometers, as well as other structures.

The sides also discussed cargo transportation through the Karasu-Kulma border crossing point between Tajikistan and China.

The entry of Tajik trucks into China through this point was opened in early February this year after a three-year break due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
