DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, August 26. Kazakhstan Railways (Kazakhstan Temir Zholy, or KTZ), the national railway company, plans to open a joint venture with Tajikistan to enhance transportation of agricultural goods, Trend reports.

According to KTZ, the railway authorities of both countries are planning to establish a transport and distribution center at the Khujand station in Tajikistan. This center will consolidate cargo from the southern regions of Tajikistan and exports from Kazakhstan.

The project aims to enhance food security, provide warehousing and trading facilities for all agricultural product exporters, and overall contribute significantly to strengthening trade and economic relations.

On August 24, Kedentransservice Company (a subsidiary of KTZ) successfully organized the first train shipment of Kazakhstani export goods from the Kostanay station to Tajikistan. The train carried more than 3,000 tons of flour and oil seeds, along with 2,000 tons of consumer goods.

Over 4 million tons of cargo were transported via railways between the two countries in 2022. The volume of cargo transportation between Kazakhstan and Tajikistan by rail amounted to around 2.7 million tons from January through July 2023, an increase of 17 percent compared to the corresponding period in 2022.
