Energy production in Tajikistan increases, EDB says

DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, April 2. Energy production in Tajikistan increased by 0.4 percent from January through February 2024, after a decline of 2.7 percent year-on-year in January, Trend reports.

The information was provided by the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB). The bank anticipates a gradual increase in electricity generation throughout 2024, which is expected to positively impact the growth of the energy sector.

Furthermore, it was noted that Tajikistan's economy continued its rapid growth amidst strong domestic demand from January through February 2024.

Retail sales increased by 17.4 percent year-on-year in the first two months of the current year, while the volume of paid services rose by 17.3 percent, and investments surged by 43.2 percent.

Industrial production in the country grew by 9.6 percent year-on-year, up from 6 percent in January 2024, primarily driven by a 31.2 percent increase in output from the extractive industries (compared to a 16.4 percent year-on-year increase in January).

Manufacturing industries saw growth of 8 percent compared to the same period in 2023, up from an increase of 7 percent in January.
