DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, April 7. The World Bank (WB) has provided $37 million to Tajikistan under the Socio-Economic Resilience Strengthening Project (SERSP) as of the end of 2023, Trend reports.
According to the WB, this project, running from 2020 to 2025, had already completed 53 community projects by 2023. These projects have improved local infrastructure and provided more opportunities for activities and jobs.
As part of SERSP, 17 youth centers have been renovated. More than 10,000 young people have received training in skills like social entrepreneurship, critical thinking, healthy living, and digital literacy. Over 5,000 young people have also been supported with training to start their own businesses.
The project has made sure that women play a central role in community development. Since the project started, the percentage of female participants in its planning, decision-making, and monitoring has increased from 0 to 56 percent.
The goal of SERSP in Tajikistan is to help vulnerable communities, as well as young men and women, be more included in the economy and society.
Between 2015 and 2023, the WB has provided over $300 million in support to build resilience in Tajikistan through the International Development Association (IDA).
