South Korean companies stake on Turkmen markets

South Korean companies make bid for participation in a number of major projects in Turkmenistan, in particular for the development of hydrocarbon deposits on the Caspian shelf and in construction of the fuel and energy complex, Turkmen official sources told.

South Korea, which opened the Embassy in Ashgabat last year, expressed interest in the development of tender placed on the Turkmen sector of the Caspian Sea, construction of the desulphurization of natural gas at the Southern Iolotan, modernization of Seydin refinery, construction of the largest building in the factory for production of pipes, holding joint geological studies and etc.

In 2008, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov made his first official visit to South Korea. S.Korea in its turn promised substantial financial infusion and introduction of advanced technologies.

Turkmenistan and South Korea also negotiate the opening of air links, construction of ship repair facilities, reconstruction of a seaport in the city of Turkmenbashi and runways of several airports. Hyundai has already started to supply vehicles and assess the prospects for setting up industrial production in Turkmenistan of automobile glass.
