Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych, who was on a visit to Ashgabat (Sept.12-13), invited Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov to pay a return visit to Kiev, an official Turkmen source said.
Berdimuhammadov accepted the invitation with gratitude and scheduled the visit for 2012. The exact date of the visit will be arranged through diplomatic channels.
A package of bilateral documents was signed the previous day, following talks in an expanded format in Ashgabat. This included:
An agreement between the Turkmen and Ukrainian governments on cooperation in education;
A cultural cooperation program between the Ministry of Culture and Broadcasting of Turkmenistan and the Ukrainian Culture Ministry for 2012-2014;
An agreement on the cooperation between the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan and the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine;
A program for the cooperation between the Turkmen Foreign Ministry and the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine in 2012.
Berdimuhamedov and Yanukovych signed the Joint Declaration on the development of friendly relations and cooperation between Turkmenistan and Ukraine, and the Agreement on long-term trade and economic cooperation.
Some 29 enterprises have been registered in Turkmenistan with Ukrainian capital. Sixty-three projects worth almost $2 billion and more than half a billion euros have been implemented and are under implementation in the country.
