The President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov received Secretary Of State and deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Grigory Karasin, the Turkmen government said on Thursday.
"Russia has always been and remains an important strategic partner with which Turkmenistan is bound by centuries old tradition and good neighbourliness and perspective cooperation based on mutual respect, equal rights, taking into account national interests," Berdimuhammadov said during the conversation.
In turn, Karasin expressed interest in order to "further develop contacts and friendship."
The meeting also stressed that 'the existing relationship between the top leadership of both countries, the regular exchange of visits at various levels, directly contributed to the establishment of efficient political dialogue, complemented by the intensive development of trade and economic cooperation'.
"It is evidenced by a continuous trend of growth in trade turnover between the two countries and successful activity of major Russian companies on the Turkmen market which is attractive for foreign investors".
About 180 joint ventures are represented on the local market, Russian companies, including Power Machines, Itera and others are involved in the construction of numerous industrial and social facilities, roads and communications.
Joint work is underway in all key areas, primarily, fuel and energy, transport and communication sectors, industry, agriculture and health care.
