Chairperson of the Majlis (Parliament) of Turkmenistan Akja Nurberdiyeva has accepted the credentials of Polish Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador Marek Tsalka, the Turkmen government said March 17.

Warsaw's plenipotentiary representative was informed on the main directions of domestic and foreign policy of Turkmenistan.

"In this context, a high level and the productivity of partnership with the EU countries, both bilaterally and as part of the authoritative international organizations and structures were stressed," the statement said.

The views on enhancing cooperation in such promising areas as power engineering, textile industry, agriculture, high technologies and tourism were exchanged at the meeting.

Poland has a favorable geographical position in the center of Europe. This allows actively developing transit routes for energy supplies from the Caspian region to Europe. This is an important incentive for the development of the mutually beneficial cooperation.

Turkmenistan sells gas on its borders. The country's rich gas reserves were confirmed by independent Western auditors.

At present, the EU-Azerbaijan negotiations are underway. Azerbaijan may participate in the joint Trans-Caspian gas pipeline project as a transit country.
