Turkmenistan aims to accelerate transition from being a raw materials supplier country to global exporter of finished products, the Turkmen government said in a message.

Currently, capacities of the Turkmen textile industry, by processing more than half volume of cotton fiber, a valuable raw material produced in the country, make it possible to manufacture up to 118,000 tons of cotton yarn, 178 million square meters of fabrics, 11,000 tons of knitted fabric, 7,200 tons of terry cloth and 100 million pieces of garment and knitwear.

This considerably exceeds domestic needs - 70 percent of textile produced in Turkmenistan account for a substantial share of export and attracts foreign consumers by ecological purity and technological quality, according to the information.

Over one million tons of cotton, which serves as the basis for development of the textile industry, is annually grown in Turkmenistan. Up to 70 percent of the raw material grown is being processed in the country.
