Turkmenistan plans to harvest 1.25 million tons of cotton, Trend reports with reference to the Turkmenistan Today state news agency.
According to the information, mass cotton harvest started in Akhal, Balkan, Lebap and Mary regions of Turkmenistan. Taking into account the soil and climatic conditions, cotton picking will also begin in the Dashoguz region on September 15.
It is noted that the total area of the fields allotted for cotton this year amounts to 620,000 hectares. In the spring medium staple cotton varieties were sown.
In the cultivation of this crop, private producers of agricultural products are also involved, having received plots from a special agricultural land fund.
In the whole country it is planned to collect 1 250 000 tons of cotton, including 280,000 tons in Akhal region, 10,000 tons in Balkan region, 275,000 tons in Dashoguz region, 320,000 tons in Lebap region, Mary region – 365,000 tons.
It is reported that the harvesting season will involve 1,000 John Deere cotton harvesters, 2,227 trucks for transporting cotton, 2,301 tractors and 3,620 tractor trailers.
In the field, for the smooth operation of the cotton harvesting conveyor, round-the-clock technical and service maintenance of the equipment in use is organized.
In addition, defoliant was purchased in the required volume for processing cotton before machine harvesting. It is also noted that not only specialized tractors, but also small aircraft will be used here.
Some 122 procurement points and 39 ginneries have been prepared to receive the new harvest of cotton.
