Turkmenistan doubles tomatoes export to EAEU countries

The supply of Turkmen tomatoes to the EAEU countries from January to April 202021 doubled compared to the same period in 2020 and amounted to 34,700 tons worth $38.1 million, Trend reports with reference to Turkmen media.

According to the information, Russia is the main buyer of Turkmen tomatoes (71 percent of total exports to the EAEU), followed by Kazakhstan (20.6 percent) and Kyrgyzstan (8.3 percent). Insignificant volumes, about 0.1 percent, were exported to Belarus.

Earlier, the National Statistical Committee of Kyrgyzstan reported that Turkmenistan became the largest exporter of tomatoes to Kyrgyzstan in 4M2021. In four months, 5,420 tons of Turkmen tomatoes worth $5.28 million were supplied to the Kyrgyz markets.

In addition, it is noted that in the first half of 2021, the growth in the production of agricultural and food products in Turkmenistan exceeded 36 percent, last year GDP grew 5.9 percent.

Also, according to foreign trade indicators, Turkmenistan's exports in the first half of the year reached $7.7 billion, while imports amounted to $10.1 billion. The country's main trading partners are Turkey ($3.7 billion), the UAE ($1.5 billion), Japan ($1.05 billion), China ($0.75 billion), and Russia ($0.42 billion dollars).

Currently, Turkmenistan exports mostly natural gas ($5.1 billion), oil products ($1.1 billion), oil ($0.61 billion), cotton fiber ($0.27 billion), and electricity ($0.12 billion).

The leaders in the share of imports of Turkmenistan are machinery, mechanisms and equipment ($1.68 billion), base metals and products from them ($1.04 billion), stone, plaster, and glass products ($0.4 billion), chemical products ($0.35 billion), food products ($0.34 billion).
