BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 15. The area of land sown with cotton in the Mary region in the south-east of Turkmenistan has been published, Trend reports citing the Turkmenistan Golden Age online newspaper.

This year, 165,000 hectares have been sown in the region, from which 365,000 tons of cotton are planned to be harvested.

Of the total amount of sown land, 15,000 hectares are allocated for fine-fiber cotton varieties and 150,000 hectares - for medium-fiber.

For high-quality storage and processing of cotton, 35 reception points and 9 cotton gin plants have been prepared throughout the region.

The agricultural sector in Turkmenistan is developing rapidly. This is one of the most important sectors of the economy of Turkmenistan. The main types of agricultural crops grown on the territory of Turkmenistan are wheat, cotton, rice, sugar beet, fodder, vegetable, melon, fruit, and berry crops.
