Council of Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure (RATS) of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) during the regular, 20th meeting, held on Tuesday in Tashkent, approved plan of joint actions of the competent authorities of the SCO member states on how to identify and suppress the financing channels of terrorist, separatist and extremist activities of illicit drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors, the press service of the Foreign Ministry of Uzbekistan said.

Representatives of China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan attended the meeting.

The meeting decided to coordinate the interaction of the competent authorities of the SCO members, taking into account possible new manifestation of terrorism, separatist and extremist nature in the SCO space.

It was also decided to establish an expert group of border services of the competent authorities of the SCO member states in fighting terrorism, separatism and extremism.

On the basis of the practice of joint measures to ensure the safety of large international events a permanent mechanism to coordinate the interaction of the competent authorities of the SCO members to ensure the security of major international events held in the territories of SCO member states was developed and approved.

The participants also considered issues of coordination of cooperation in the field of information security and coordinated joint actions of the competent bodies of the SCO member states to prevent and combat the use or threat of use of computer networks for terrorist, separatist and extremist purposes.

Participants in the meeting approved the draft report to the Council of Heads of SCO Member States on the SCO RATS in 2011, heard a presentation by Director of the RATS Executive Committee Jenisbek Dzhumanbekova on the implementation of the program of cooperation in combating terrorism, separatism and extremism for 2010-2012, as well as the decisions of the RATS Council. The activities of the SCO RATS Executive Committee in 2011 have been assessed positively.

In addition, the meeting approved the draft program of cooperation of SCO member states in combating terrorism, separatism and extremism for 2013-2015.

SCO RATS Council approved the candidacy of Chinese representative Zhang Sinfen for Director of the SCO RATS Executive Committee from January 1, 2013 and recommended to submit it for consideration by the Council of Heads of SCO member states.

The next meeting of the SCO RATS Council will take place in September 2012 in Kyrgyzstan.

Regional Antiterrorist Structure is a permanent organ of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, established to facilitate coordination and cooperation among the competent authorities of the - the SCO member states in combating terrorism, separatism and extremism. In its activities the RATS is guided by documents and decisions adopted within SCO. RATS interacts with the competent authorities of the parties and prepares the relevant materials at the request of other authorities of the SCO.
