An Uzbek delegation consisting of Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov and Defense Minister Kabul Berdiyev has attended a special session on Afghanistan at the 25th NATO Summit in Chicago (USA), Foreign Ministry said.
Representatives of governments participating in the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan (ISAF) discussed the stabilization of the situation in Afghanistan and socio-economic recovery.
According to the U.S. Department of Defense, Pentagon Chief Leon Panetta met with the representatives of Central Asian countries, including Uzbekistan. He thanked them for their support to the Northern Distribution Network, which is central for delivering goods to ISAF forces in Afghanistan.
Panetta called on the representatives of the region's countries to continue cooperation in the sphere of security also after the planned withdrawal of the international coalition from Afghanistan in 2014.
The declaration of the ISAF member countries was adopted following the meeting.
