Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Jose Manuel Garcia-Margalit confirmed the readiness of the country's leadership to strengthen the open political dialogue and bilateral cooperation with Uzbekistan in all spheres of mutual interest.
Garcia-Margalit made this statement during a reception at the Uzbek President Islam Karimov's administration.
President Karimov received Spanish foreign minister on April 21, who paid an official visit to Uzbekistan, the Uzbek national news agency (UzA) reported on April 21.
During the meeting the Uzbek president expressed satisfaction with the level of the multifaceted Uzbek-Spanish dialogue and appreciated the role and place of Spain in solving the relevant international and regional problems.
President Karimov and Minister Garcia Margalit discussed the priority areas of bilateral cooperation, international issues, including those relating to the regional security and stability in the context of the situation in Afghanistan.
President Karimov said that Uzbekistan attaches great importance to the development of comprehensive relations with Spain as one of its priority and reliable partners in the European Union.
The sides stressed that the dynamic and sustainable economic growth rates and favorable conditions created in Uzbekistan for foreign investors are a solid foundation for expanding trade-economic and investment cooperation.
The regular contacts between the representatives of business circles of the two countries testify to the growing mutual interest in the implementation of new joint projects in various sectors of the economy.
President Karimov wished success in holding the business forum, scheduled to be held during Spanish Foreign Minister's visit.
A representative delegation of Spanish businessmen involved in the infrastructure projects and high technologies arrived to attend the business forum in Uzbekistan.
Garcia-Margalit conveyed Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy Bray's invitation to pay an official visit to Spain.
