Uzbekistan, Russia sign PSA to develop field in Surkhandarya

A subsidiary of Gazprom and Gazprombank, Gas Project Development Central Asia AG (GPD) and National Holding Company Uzbekneftegaz signed a production sharing agreement (PSA) with regard to the investment block “Uzbekistan Mustakilligi” (Independence of Uzbekistan) with additional exploration and development of the field “Mustaqillikning 25 yilligi” (25 years of Uzbekistan’s independence) and construction of a gas chemical complex in Surkhandarya region (south of Uzbekistan).

The PSA was signed within the state visit of Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Russia on Apr. 4-5.

According to Uzbekneftegaz, the field “Mustaqillikning 25 yilligi” is complicated in terms of geology and gas composition; however, investors go there under the condition that a gas processing plant will be built there.

Gazprom has invested $383.3 million in 2006-2013 within the implementation of geological work in Ustyurt region (northwest of Uzbekistan). The concern continues work on technical task for the development of preliminary feasibility study “Development of the Jel field under the PSA”.

Moreover, Gazprom signed a 5-year contract with Uzbek partners to buy gas in Uzbekistan.

In general, during the Uzbek president’s visit to Russia, several agreements worth $12 billion on implementation of big investment projects and trade contracts worth $3.8 billion were signed.
