The volume of products produced by metallurgical enterprises of Uzbekistan from January through September 2020 in value terms amounted to 55.2 trillion soums ($5.32 billion), which is seven percent more than in the same period last year, Trend reports citing State Statistics Committee.
The volume of exports for 9M200 amounted to $859.4 million in value terms, and the industry's share in the total metallurgical export of Uzbekistan accounted for 6.9 percent.
The bulk of metal products are produced by enterprises of Navoi (56.7 percent) and Tashkent (36.2 percent) regions, as well as Tashkent city (5.6 percent).
Some 52 enterprises with their own foundries are engaged in the production of ferrous metals in Uzbekistan. The largest of them is Uzmetkombinat JSC, which accounts for 82 percent of the foundry capacity.
Currently, the construction of a foundry and rolling shop with an annual capacity of 1.04 million tons of hot-rolled sheet metal per year is underway on the basis of Uzmetkombinat JSC.
The construction of the Tashkent Metallurgical Plant with an annual capacity of up to 500,000 tons of cold-rolled steel is nearing completion in the capital region. The launch of the plant is scheduled for December 2020.
It is expected that the launch of these facilities will increase the production of metallurgical products in Uzbekistan to three million tons by 2025.
After the plant reaches full capacity, 20 percent of its production will be exported to Iran, Turkey, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia.
