Uzbekistan confirms interest in implementing USAID projects in Central Asia

USAID (United States Agency for International Development), Uzbekistan confirmed interest in the implementation of USAID regional projects within the framework of the C5+1 format, in particular those focused on the active involvement of Afghanistan in economic processes in Central Asia, Trend reports citing Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan.

Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov, who is on a visit to the United States, met with the head of the USAID John Barsa.

The parties discussed the successful launch of new projects in Uzbekistan in the fields of education, health, energy and legal proceedings.

In addition, a thorough exchange of views took place on the development of joint projects aimed at the economic development of Uzbekistan, strengthening the export potential of agricultural products, improving the management and efficient use of water resources, improving the situation in the Aral Sea region.

Barsa noted the Agency's commitment to further support the large-scale reforms being carried out in Uzbekistan.

Earlier it was reported that USAID has provided $2 million in regional COVID-19 supplementary funds to expand the Safe Migration activity for the Central Asia region.

The USAID mission in Uzbekistan will incorporate programs that will to help address the impacts of COVID-19 on a range of development areas, including employment, government revenues, return of migrants, food security, and human trafficking.

The US Agency for International Development is an independent agency of the US Federal Government that is primarily responsible for administering civilian foreign aid and development assistance.
