Commissioning is underway at a new ammonia and urea (carbamide) plant at the Navoiazot facility in Uzbekistan, which is already supplied with natural gas, Trend reports with reference to the FertilizerDaily.ru.
The current production capacity of the plant amounts to 660,000 tons of ammonia and 577,500 tons of carbamide per year. It is expected that the production of ammonia and ammonium nitrate in Uzbekistan will almost double with the launch of the plant.
At the same time, energy consumption will be significantly reduced. The total cost of the project is estimated at $985 million.
The Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan previously announced that the launch of production will take place in 2020.
Earlier, the government of Uzbekistan approved a road map for the development of the mineral fertilizer industry. It is planned that the total output of the chemical industry in Uzbekistan by 2031 will increase 4.5 times, and exports will grow four times.
At the same time, according to the plans, the share of organic chemistry products in the total production volume will increase from seven to 54 percent.
Navoiazot JSC is the largest chemical enterprise in Uzbekistan commissioned in 1964. The plant specializes in the production of nitrogen fertilizers, polyacrylonitrile fibers (nitron), and integral organic synthesis products.
