Uzbekistan taking measures to deepen localization in textile production

Construction of a $39 million textile complex in Jizzakh region of Uzbekistan will start this summer, Trend reports referring to the press service of the president of Uzbekistan.

During the acquaintance with the presentation of investment projects formed for the Jizzakh region, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev was provided with information on 515 projects that will be implemented in the region this year.

According to the information, the total cost of these projects amounts to 35.5 trillion soums ($3.4 billion). As a result of their implementation, it is expected to create new enterprises with a total production volume of 25 trillion soums per year ($2.4 billion), as well as almost 23,000 jobs.

It was noted that opportunities will emerge to replace $264 million in imports and $311 million in merchandise exports.

Thus, it is planned to implement eight projects in the building materials industry. These include the production of basalt fiber and various materials from it. To date, a land plot has been allocated for this project worth 723 billion soums. The company is expected to start operating in the third quarter of this year.

Also, promising projects for the production of high grade cement, concrete slabs, fittings, geogrids have been presented.

In addition, the project to create a textile complex in the city of Jizzakh will be an important contribution to the deep processing of local raw materials and increase the employment of women. Construction of the $39 million facility will begin this summer and production is slated to begin next year.

The head of state also pointed out the cultivation, processing and export of medicinal plants in mountainous areas. Currently, there are seven clusters specializing in this area. In particular, the BMB Trade Group cluster is developing saffron cultivation and processing in the Bakhmal region. As a result of the project worth more than $30 million, 200 people will be employed.

Also, a number of projects for the development of animal husbandry, poultry farming, processing of meat and dairy products, and the production of silk fabrics were presented. During the presentation, the economic efficiency and sources of financing for these projects, issues of infrastructure support were considered.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized that the potential of the Jizzakh region is huge and allows many more large projects to be implemented. The president instructed taking measures to deepen localization in textile production and the production of finished products, to ensure food security through the cultivation of demanded fruit and vegetable crops on newly developed lands, and to attract foreign investment in the extraction of minerals.
