Uzbekistan, Turkey identify steps to increase volume of mutual trade

Uzbekistan and Turkey identified further steps to strengthen trade cooperation and bring the volume of trade to $5 billion in the near future, Trend reports with reference to the Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan.

The mentioned issues were discussed by the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov and the Ambassador of Turkey Olgan Bekar.

It is reported that the parties discussed the current state and prospects for the development of bilateral political, trade, economic, investment, cultural and humanitarian cooperation, as well as further measures to deepen the multifaceted partnership between the two states.

It was noted that the volume of Turkish investments in the economy of Uzbekistan since 2019 amounted to about $950 million, and the number of enterprises with the participation of Turkish capital operating in the republic amounted to 1,576.

The parties outlined further steps to attract Turkish investors to the implementation of projects in Uzbekistan and expressed mutual readiness to provide comprehensive support to Turkish entrepreneurs in the implementation of investment and production activities in the country.

Also, the technical cooperation projects implemented in Uzbekistan jointly with the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TICA) were considered.

In addition, positive tendencies were noted in increasing trade between the two countries - the volume of mutual trade for 2M2021 increased by 27.6 percent.

Furthermore, the parties identified further steps to strengthen trade cooperation and bring the volume of trade to $5 billion in the near future. In this vein, the sides discussed issues of working out an agreement on preferential trade, the completion of which will allow accelerating the increase in the volume of mutual trade.

The sides also considered prospects for expanding cooperation in the implementation of Turkey's experience to improve the investment climate, development of regions, and increase the efficiency of management of free economic zones. In addition, the sides discussed the possibility of attracting leading Turkish expert consultants in the fields of construction, transport and environmental protection to work in Uzbekistan.
