Uzbekistan plans to provide the Latvian market with a wide range of finished goods of the textile industry, leather and footwear products, mineral fertilizers, fresh and dried fruit and vegetable products, Trend reports citing the Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan.

The mentioned issue was discussed at the eighth meeting of the Uzbek-Latvian Intergovernmental Commission (IGC) on economic, industrial, and scientific-technical cooperation.

According to the information, Uzbekistan is ready to import wood and wood products, grain crops and products of their processing, furniture accessories, lighting devices, medical equipment, optical equipment, dairy products from Latvia.

It was noted at the meeting that the recently obtained status of a beneficiary country of the preferential tariff system of the European Union GSP + will contribute to the increase in the volume of mutual trade.

Also, the participants of the meeting noted the already existing cooperation between specialized organizations of both countries in the direction of testing Uzbek products intended for export to world markets, consulting and technical assistance in matters of certification, standardization, labeling, passing sanitary and quarantine procedures.

In particular, it was emphasized that at present in Uzbekistan the Latvian pharmaceutical companies OlainFarm, Grindeks, Biosan, Silvanols, and others have registered 63 names of medicines, two medical products, and six names of medical equipment. It was reported that Uzbekistan annually imports pharmaceutical products worth over $2 billion.

Furthermore, measures are being taken to localize the production of medicines, and for this purpose, nine pharmaceutical-free zones have been created, the residents of which are exempt from all types of taxes and customs duties. The Uzbek side invited Latvian pharmaceutical companies to actively participate in the implementation of investment projects in Uzbekistan in this area.

In the agricultural sector, promising areas of interaction between Uzbekistan and Latvia today are the creation of intensive orchards, animal husbandry, cattle breeding, fish farming, winemaking and greenhouse farming, as well as the development of modern agricultural knowledge and technologies.
