BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 26. Uzbekistan has commissioned a 1 MW solar PV power station at the Talimarjan thermal power plant (TPP), Trend reports.
Talimarjan TPP, located in the Nishan district of Uzbekistan’s Kashkadarya region, was put into operation in 2004.
The station incorporates energy-saving technologies, such as solar panels, to cover the electricity used for internal purposes.
Upon its operation, the station will generate 1.8 million kWh of electricity annually. This will result in saving 400,000 cubic meters of natural gas per year.
Meanwhile, the station is equipped with over 1,500 monocrystalline panels and operates in "on grid" mode, which converts electricity from solar panels into 220-volt, 50 Hz grid voltage and feeds it into the power grid.
Earlier in May, Uzbekistan has begun the construction of the two combined-cycle gas installations with a total capacity of 900 MW on the territory adjacent to the Talimarjan TPP. The ministry says that new installations will generate an additional 7.2 billion kWh of electricity per year, thus saving 520,000 cubic meters of natural gas.
