TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, May 29. Uzbekistan's Navoi Mining and Metallurgical Company (NMMC) plans to save 319.5 million kWh of electricity and 2.6 million cubic meters of natural gas in 2024, Trend reports.

According to the NMMC, due to the introduction of renewable energy sources, it will be possible to save electricity and natural gas.

Moreover, the plant has saved 51.7 million kWh of electricity as of May 1, 2024.

"Large-scale work on the introduction of solar photovoltaic stations is being carried out at the enterprise. To date, solar photovoltaic stations with a total capacity of 1,450 kW have been put into operation at the company, which generate 2.46 million kWh of electricity per year," chief power engineer of NMMC Golibzhon Kholboev said.

According to him, a solar photovoltaic station with a capacity of 5,700 kW will be put into operation by the end of 2024.

The combine also pays attention to the production of heat energy from solar energy. About 5,000 solar water heating devices (heliocollectors) have been installed in the subdivisions. Thus, it will be possible to fully cover the needs of subdivisions in hot water at the expense of renewable energy sources in April–October 2024 and save 1.7 million cubic meters of natural gas per year.

Meanwhile, Uzbekistan's State Assets Management Agency (SAMA) has received a two percent stake in Navoi Mining and Metallurgical Company.

Until March 1, 2023, the Ministry of Economy and Finance was the shareholder of NMMC, and then the function of the shareholder of the state stake in the company was transferred to the Agency for Strategic Reforms. The management was transferred to the UzAssets company.
