TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, June 4. Kapitalbank’s (one of Uzbekistan's major private banks) revenues through payment terminals amounted to 3.95 trillion soums ($315.6 million) from January through April 2024, Trend reports.
According to the data from the Central Bank of Uzbekistan, Kapitalbank's revenues through payment terminals accounted for 3.9 percent of the total revenues of all banks in Uzbekistan during the aforesaid period.
The total amount of revenues through payment terminals in the country reached 99.3 trillion soums ($7.8 billion) from January through April 2024. The recorded number reflects a 40 percent increase compared to the same period in 2023, when the bank recorded 70.9 trillion soums ($5.6 billion) worth of transactions through POS terminals.
Uzbekistan’s Aloqa Bank ranks first with the most revenue volume of 17.3 trillion soums ($1.3 billion) from January through April 2024, while Smart Bank accounts for the smallest volume of revenues through payment terminals in the country, with 547 million soums ($43,373).
Meanwhile, the volume of revenues in Uzbekistan conducted through POS terminals reached 71.6 trillion soums ($5.6 billion) as of April 2024. The recorded number reflects a 35.3 percent increase compared to the same period in 2023, when the bank recorded 52.9 trillion soums ($4.1 billion) worth of transactions through POS terminals.
Uzbekistan is actively promoting contactless payment systems by popularizing NFC technology in sales and service points throughout the country and by taking measures to provide QR codes in accordance with the requirements of trade and service points throughout the country.
