Egyptian Foreign Minister Nabil el-Arabi on Sunday called for restoring full diplomatic ties between Tehran and Cairo, IRNA reported.
Describing Iran as an influential country in the region, he said, "Egypt will open a new chapter of ties with the countries such as Iran."
"We should be realistic regarding the issues," he said.
This is the second time over the past week that the Egyptian officials have made effort to normalize ties with the Islamic Republic of Iran.
El-Arabi has earlier announced that Egypt does not consider Iran an enemy and answered positively in response to Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi's proposal to restore diplomatic ties.
