Iran Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast, in a press conference in Havana, rejected US statements on human rights, IRNA reported.

He told reporters that US claims on human rights is "politically motivated" and reminded that the US has not explained about its "inhuman behaviour" and torture in Guantanamo and Abu-Ghreib prisons yet.

Answering a question by Associated Press reporter about domestic situation in Syria, Mehmanparast asked the reporter to tell his colleagues to be sensitive towards other countries, too.

He said the Americans and their media express concern over human rights situation in certain countries, but they do not pay attention to news on fate of people of Bahrain and Yemen.

He added that the US officials supported Egypt and Tunisia dictators until the end, but as soon as their fall became evident, they changed their stances promptly.

The spokesman called the US as the biggest violator of human rights in the world. Concerning situation in Libya, he said that Iran doubts about US and NATO intentions in that country and it seems that the aim of operation is not protection of people but oil wells and contracts of American oil companies with Libya.

A reporter from Venezuela asked about future economic relations between Tehran and Caracas; the spokesman answered there are good political ties between Iran, Cuba, and Venezuela and a brilliant future for mutual ties with Latin America region is predicted.

Correspondent of Global Post Newspaper asked whether Iran intends to help Cuba on the issue of energy; Mehmanparast answered that Iran has technical knowledge related to exploration and extraction of oil and gas and is ready to transfer its abilities to its friend.

Associated Press reporter said after recent earthquake in Japan, a number of countries have decided to close their nuclear power plants, and if Iran is to do something about the issue; the spokesman asked if he can name some of these countries which have closed their plants and if US or European countries are among these countries.

He continued that earthquake might happen everywhere in the world; and that Iran's nuclear installations have been built with the highest safety standards and continue their operation naturally.
