Iranian domestic dams have the capacity to store some 46 billon cubic meters of water, First Vice President Mohammad-Reza Rahimi said.
He added that nearly 1,000 dams are in operation or being constructed in Iran, the Mehr news agency reported.
Iran ranks first in the region and third in the world in terms of the dam construction industry, Rahimi said in October.
He added that contractors are building 135 new dams across the country and also doing several projects in other countries.
He added that Tehran has been a target of Western sanctions for more than three decades. Today, Iran ranks first in the region and 16th in the world in terms of electricity output, he said.
In July, Iran celebrated its self-sufficiency in dam construction by inaugurating the Karun-4 dam, the largest concrete dam in Iran.
