Five Iranian pilgrims, who have earlier been held in captivity in Syria, returned to Tehran today, Fars reported.

According to earlier information, these five pilgrims of Iran were kidnapped in Syrian city of Homs by unknown armed forces and accused of espionage. Iranian pilgrims left for Syria two months ago to visit holy places there.

Today, the citizens of Iran were released and driven to the Turkish border, where they were taken by the border guards.

Later on, the Consulate of Iran in Turkey organized the transfer of the pilgrims to Tehran. Spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry Ramin Mehmanparast met the pilgrims at the airport in Tehran.

Mehmanparast welcomed the pilgrims, and thanked the Turkish side for the assistance.
