Dollar, gold coin prices slide in Iran markets

The price on the U.S. dollar sold on the free market in Iran slid to 17,800 rials today or dropped by 150-rial compared to yesterday.

While the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) has set 12,260 rials as the official exchange rate for the dollar, the currency has recently fetched as much as 20,000 rials.

Meanwhile the price on gold coins has also decreased. Today, old design Bahar Azadi coins cost 6.95 million rials (about $567) compared to yesterday's rate of 7 million rials (about $571) while new design Bahar Azadi coins cost 6.85 million rials (about $559) compared to 692 million rias yesterday ($564).

The CBI mints and sells the gold coins.
