Iran plans to increase annual caviar output tenfold to one ton in the current calendar year, which began on March 20, the head of the Fishery Organization said.

Gholamreza Razeqi told the IRNA News Agency that some 100 kilograms of caviar have been produced since the beginning of the current year, and that a portion of the output has been exported.

On June 5, Razeqi said that Iran produced some 8,000 tons of shrimp in the past calendar year.

Iran plans to export as much as $250 million fish and shrimp in the current calendar year, he noted.

"The fishery organization's budget has increased by 20 percent compared to the year before," he added.

Some 4,000 tons of shrimp, valued at around $17 million, were exported last year to the UAE, Kuwait, Lebanon, Australia and Spain, he said, adding that infrastructures have been provided to export 500 kilograms of caviar in the current year.
