The Iranian ambassador to Damascus says the Syrian crisis needs a political solution, warning that any measure contrary to such trend would further complicate the situation in the country, Press TV reported.

Mohammad-Reza Raouf Sheibani made the remarks in a meeting with Syrian Minister for National Reconciliation Ali Haidar on Wednesday.

He warned that any measure that has a military aspect or allows foreign interference in Syria would lead to the spread of the crisis beyond the Syrian borders.

The Iranian envoy also voiced Tehran's readiness to help the progress of dialogue among the Syrian sides.

The Syrian minister, for his part, underlined the need for cooperation and consultations among all the friend countries of the Syrian government and people to find a way out of the ongoing crisis.

He said his ministry seeks to bring reconciliation among the Syrian people from all walks of life and to pave the way for national dialogue.

Haidar also condemned foreign interference in Syria and said his ministry underpins the resolution of the Syrian crisis through domestic participation.

Syria has been experiencing unrest since mid-March 2011. The violence has claimed the lives of many people, including security forces.

The West and the Syrian opposition accuse the government of killing protesters, but Damascus blames 'outlaws, saboteurs, and armed terrorist groups' for the unrest, asserting that it is being orchestrated from abroad.
