By October of this year, all Iranian provinces will have access to both general internet, and the secure national network, Iranian Minister of Communication and Information Technology Reza Taqipour said, IRIB News reported.
Taghipour noted that thus far 28 Iranian provinces have been equipped with such access, while two more remain until the end of September.
"Having a secure national network does not mean having no access to general internet," Taghipour said. "When the work is complete, all provinces will have access to information both inside the national grid, and outside of it."
On Aug. 26, Taghipour said Iran plans to launch a number of indigenous internet search engines by the next few months in a bid to facilitate web searching for Iranian users.
Taqipour underlined that his ministry has been serious about the home-grown nature of the engines and a number of programming groups have been working on the project for quite some time already, Fars reported.
At the same time, according to ITU (International Telecommunication Union) standard, which says, the minimum high-speed internet connection is measured at 1,5 Mbit/s, very few of Iranians have that kind of speed, IRNA reported.
On August 13 Minister of Communications and Information Technology Reza Taqipour said that Iran plans to increase its internet bandwidth to 2 terabits per second from 520 gigabits per second by the end of its fifth five-year development plan (March 2016).
Reza Taqipour told the ISNA News Agency that the bandwidth has been increased to 520 gigabits per second from 23 gigabits per second during the past three years.
