Iran's Deputy Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of Armed Forces Massoud Jazayeri has warned that the West's use of terrorist groups in the region will eventually backfire, Fars News Agency reported on March 3.

He has said that the terrorist groups including al-Qaeda which are wreaking havoc on Syria will one day turn their weapons toward the U-S and European countries that are backing them now.

Jazayeri added that the West's plans to boost its support for militant groups in Syria, will have grave consequences.

Iran's president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad also said on Saturday that national dialog is the only solution to the crisis in Syria.

In his meeting with Syria's foreign minister, Walid al-Muallim, Ahmadinejad called for an immediate end to the violence and foreign interference.

He also said that those who resort to violence but speak of democracy must be disarmed soon.

Clashes between Syrian government and opposition forces have increasingly risen since early 2011, resulting in over 70, 000 deaths.

Over 130 countries recognize opposition groups headed by the The National Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces as the legitimate representative of Syrian people.

According to Iran and Russia, the crisis in Syria should be solved in a peaceful way and through negotiations held only among Syrian people.

According to Iran, the Syrian crisis was caused artificially by foreign countries in order to undermine the resistance front against Israel.
