Iranian parliament approves new Health Minister

The Iranian parliament has approved Mohammad Hassan Tariqat Monfared as the President's nominee for the post of Minister of Health and Medical Education, Mehr News Agency reported.

The Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad introduced Tariqat Monfared to the parliament on March 9.

President Ahmadinejad defended his nominee for an hour in the parliament on March 17.

Former Health Minister Mrs.Marzieh Vahid Dastjerdi was dismissed by President Ahmadinejad in December 2012, because of her harsh critics on the Central Bank. She criticized the Central Bank because its avoidance to supply importers of medical equipments and drugs with official USD.

Each USD is sold at 33, 500 rials in the open market, while its official price is 12, 260 rials.

Around 113 of 224 MPs voted for his candidacy, 99 voted against and 12 abstained.
