Trend:

All large foreign ships continue passing Iran's waters, and the Iranian ports are operating normally, Iran's Managing Director of Ports and Maritime Organization announced, Trend reports citing IRNA.

Referring to the impact of the recent developments in maritime transportation in the region, Mohammad Rastad says that commercial shipments and business ports of the country continue their activities as routine basis.

“In non-oil imports, we had growth of 15 percent. As known, Iran's non-oil exports are about twice in volume compared to the non-oil imports,” Mohammad Rastad said. “Since the beginning of the year, we exported 13 million tons of non-oil products.”

“The operations of the fleet under the flag of the Islamic Republic of Iran and owned by Iranian companies continue to be carried out,” he said.

He went on to say that Iran's maritime capacities will undermine sanctions. “Sanctions cannot exclude Iran from maritime trade. Last year, 265 million tons were shipped through all ports of the country, and more than 135 million tons of this volume accounted for commercial ports,” he added.

“The Iran's activities in the shipping and ports sector will continue on a routine basis. So far, no decision has been made by foreign shipping companies to avoid waters of Iran," he said referring to impact of the recent attack on four commercial vessels near Fujairah emirate of the UAE outside the Strait of Hormuz on trading and shipping towards Iranian waterways.

On 12 May 2019, four commercial ships were damaged off Fujairah's coast in the Gulf of Oman. The ships included two Saudi Arabian registered oil tankers, a Norwegian registered oil tanker, and an Emirati registered bunkering ship. The ships were anchored on the United Arab Emirates territorial waters for bunkering in the Port of Fujairah.
