BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 25. The production of iron ore by 14 major Iranian companies increased by 38 percent in the 1st month of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through April 19, 2024) compared to the same month of last year (from March 21 through April 20, 2023), the statement of the Iranian Mines & Mining Industries Development & Renovation organization said, Trend reports.
According to the information, 14 major companies in Iran produced about 7.5 million tons of iron ore in the first month. In the same month last year, the production of large companies was 5.33 million tons.
The information shows that Sangan Mining Company produced 1.8 million tons, Gohar-Zamin Company about 1.24 million tons, Middle East Mines and Mining Development Company (MIDHCO) 999,000 tons, Golgohar Company 925,000 tons, Chadormalu Company 604,000 tons, and Jalalabad Company produced 348,000 tons of iron ore.
The information noted that 327,000 tons from Central Iron Ore Company, 319,000 tons from Sirjan Mines and Industry Company, 290,000 tons from Mahan Mines and Industry Company, 286,000 tons from Sabanour Company, Bafq Desert Emerging Mineral Industries Company about 160,000 tons, Golmande Iron Ore Mine 95,100 tons, Mishdovan Iron Ore Mine 47,300 tons, and Central Offshore Company extracted 20,700 tons of iron ore.
Furthermore, the information indicates that large mining enterprises produced 4.6 million tons of iron ore concentrate in the first month. This is 1 percent less compared to the same month last year. A total of 4.64 million tons of iron ore concentrate was produced in the same month last year.
To note, Iran can produce an average of 100 million tons of iron ore concentrate per year. Iron ore concentrate is used in steel production. The potential of steel production in Iran is about 40 million tons per year.
