Iran's foreign minister in Syria for talks Philips

( IRNA ) - Iran's Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki arrived in Syria Thursday morning for a two-day visit.

Mottaki, who is heading a political delegation, was welcomed at Damascus international airport by his Syrian counterpart Walid al-Moualem and Iran's Ambassador to Syria Mohammad-Hassan Akhtari.

Speaking to reporters upon arrival, Mottaki said, "The visit is taking place upon an invitation by al-Moualem to discuss expansion of bilateral ties and regional developments."

Mottaki is to meet Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to congratulate him on his re-election.

The Iranian foreign minister is also scheduled to meet Syrian Vice President Farouq al-Shara and Prime Minister Naji al-Otari.
